Two iconic Willowfest teams will return to Mildura this summer for the inaugural Twenty20 competition.
Richmond Hooters and Rhino’s Raiders will make their return to Willowfest in December, some 10 years after their last appearance at the carnival.
Richmond Hooters’ Mark Weightman said his brother Dale, who played 275 VFL games with Richmond, was the brains behind the idea.
“We think we might be able to get through 20 overs each,” Weightman joked.
“We’ll have our families and our kids playing.”
Weightman said the Twenty20 competition would be a great chance to catch up with old friends.
“We’ll get through the overs but we might have a few subs, that’s why we’ll have our kids there,” he said.
“I don’t know how we’ll go winning or anything like that, we’ll just get out there and enjoy ourselves.
“We hope to get a few ex-Richmond players up, too, like Trevor Poole because he normally holidays in Mildura.”
One Twenty20 game will be played per day during the carnival, which kicks off on December 27, making it the ideal competition for social cricketers who will be holidaying in Mildura over the Christmas and New Year period.
