Willowfest Welcomes Ronnie

FORMER Australian Test cricketer Andrew McDonald will coach a team for the first time at this year’s Willowfest cricket carnival.

The team, which will play in cup grade, will consist of McDonald’s younger brother and recently capped South Australian one-day player Brenton.
Italian cricket captain Carl Sandri, who also plays in the Victorian Premier League in Melbourne, will also make his way to Mildura for the carnival.
Comedians The Nelson Twins – of Australia’s Got Talent fame – will also play in the team.

McDonald, who played four Tests in 2009 against South Africa, will also be promoting his new business Flip Sports, which has been established with IPL teammate Dan Vettori.
McDonald said he would be hoping to make it to Willowfest depending on the Big Bash fixture.

“Growing up in Wodonga, there were always teams that ventured up the Murray
River to Mildura for Willowfest,” McDonald said.
“I’ve heard some interesting stories about Willowfest.
“It’s cricket the way it’s meant to be; just fun.”

Willowfest President Anthony Telfer said McDonald’s team would add depth to the carnival’s premier competition, Powercor cup grade.
“Willowfest has been working hard for a number of years to encourage either first-class or premier cricketers to the competition,” Telfer said.
“It now appears this hard work is paying off.

“Having these quality players in the McDonald Brothers, Carl Sandri and the Nelson Twins is definitely going to increase the exposure of Willowfest at a national level.”
